This Blue print package is intended for do it your selfers,third world project leaders,teachers and students as it requires a very modest budget. It does not require any special tools (hand tools only). If the oven is built using reused or recycled materials, it can be built for as little as $20.00 Canadian. The geometry has been simplified on this model to accommodate and encourage untrained or inexperienced builders. In the dimensioned drawings of the blueprint we modified the reflector shape to accommodate the do it your self builder. It is much simpler to build this shape with hand tools. This blue print is intended to give the reader a pictorial view of the Freedom Cooker and dimensions for its assembly. However, this design is meant to be experimented with and innovations of the basic design are encouraged. It is possible to modify the design and still have it work for you. Your oven design will depend on the materials and tools available to you and your skill level.

Following is a list of essentials in order for the oven to reach good cooking temperatures:
_
1) Insulation and Radiation Barrier - will slow heat loss resulting in higher temperatures.
_
2) The Window - double glazing will also slow heat loss; however, materials can vary. Clearness is important here. For example, tinted glass or opaque plastics will not work well.

3) The Reflectors - experiment with various materials. Mylar chip bags, shiny side glued to cardboard or aluminum press plates work well. Remember the shinier the reflective material, the more energy will enter the bake chamber. The angle is also important here. Remember that the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. We want the sun’s rays to enter the bake chamber!

4) The Bake Chamber - must be colored flat black in order to absorb the suns light energy.
Black or dark colored pots absorb more energy and work best for cooking. Keep shadows to a minimum inside the bake chamber. The Freedom Cooker oven bake chamber is designed to eliminate shadows. This results in higher temperatures.

5) The Frame - use a material that will not conduct heat out of the bake chamber. Our objective is to trap heat. This oven uses wood.

6) Everything else is subject to experiment and your oven should still work well. ie. Size, shape, material for shell, type of insulation, the way the reflectors are mounted, etc. As our research at Solar Freedom International is ongoing, we would be interested in any changes you make that bring good results.
